Story Behind the Story
A drawing in the sand. A bedtime story. A dream that never disappeared.
In December 2007, Chloe—exactly seven years old, going on eight—was visiting her father, Bryan, in Playas del Coco, Costa Rica. Back home in snowy St. Sauveur, Québec, building snowmen was a cherished part of winter. One afternoon on the beach, Chloe drew that familiar shape in the warm sand.
That evening, her drawing inspired the spontaneous bedtime story Bryan told her. In it, the Christmas Sandman came alive. When the families left the beach, he felt lonely—but he believed that somewhere, someone was waiting for him.
Chloe knew who: the Christmas Snowman back home.
There was only one seemingly impossible problem: the Snowman would melt in Costa Rica, and the Sandman would freeze in Québec. How could two kindred spirits from different worlds ever meet?
At its heart, this is a story about friendship, imagination, loneliness, hope and belonging—and believing that distance and differences do not have to keep us apart.
Nearly nineteen years later, that unforgettable father-daughter moment is becoming The Sandman & The Snowman™. The book is now in its final creative and production stages.
